Getting started

This guide walks you through the first steps so you can build a diagram and see results quickly.

Welcome project

When you first sign in, ekx creates a sample project with a pre-built diagram showing a basic electrical system: utility feed, main breaker, transformer, and load bus. Use this project to explore the interface and see how components connect. You can modify or delete it like any other project. It does not count toward your plan's project limit.

Create your first project

1. Sign in to your ekx account.
2. On the Projects page, click Create Project, or click + next to Projects in the

sidebar.

1. Enter a Project Name. Under Electrical code, keep NEC 2026 or choose CEC 2024.
2. Click Create Project. The project opens in the SLD editor with an empty canvas and the

component toolbar at the bottom.

Add your first components

1. Drag a utility, bus, transformer, or load from the component toolbar onto the canvas.
2. Drop each component close to the one it should connect to; auto-connect links them.
3. Or select a component and click a toolbar button. EKX places the new component above or below

it and connects them.

1. To put a breaker, fuse, switch or cable into a connection you already drew, select the wire and

click the toolbar button, or drop the component onto the wire. If the selected component's only wire on that side is already used, such as a transformer feeding a bus, the new part goes into that wire. One undo takes it back out.

Save your work

Changes are stored in the project as you work.
