Add a device to the Device Catalog

The Device Catalog is read-only in the EKX browser. To add or correct a record, choose one of two ways:

  1. Ask your AI agent. Install the EKX plugin in Claude Code or Codex, as described in Connect an AI agent to EKX, and send it the manufacturer PDFs. Agent imports need the Owner or Admin role and a paid plan.
  2. Email the manufacturer PDFs to [email protected]. EKX makes the import and replies when the record is in your catalogue.

In the Device Catalog, click Add a device to see both options and a request you can copy for your agent.

What to provide

Attach one to three manufacturer PDFs. A package can contain a datasheet, a trip-unit guide, a time-current curve, or a combination of these documents. Tell the agent which product you want added.

To import curves, send at most 24 PDF pages in total: only the pages with the curves and settings. A larger set that contains curves fails before extraction and is not charged, even when you did not ask for curves.

The import supports LV breakers, electronic trip units, thermal-magnetic trip units, and fuses. Protective relays, medium-voltage breakers, and overload relays cannot be imported. When a PDF also describes one of those devices, the import saves the supported devices and notes the one it left out.

To correct an organization-private record of a supported device type, open its catalogue page, open the record actions menu, and choose Correct record. The dialog shows a request that already names that exact record. Copy it, add the change you want, and send it to your agent with the manufacturer PDFs, or click Email support to send the PDFs to EKX with the record already named. To add a curve document to an existing record, choose Add curve document from the same menu.

Example:

> Add this breaker frame and its compatible electronic trip unit to my EKX catalogue. Use the attached datasheet and TCC. Show me any unresolved facts before applying it.

Review and apply

The agent uploads the PDFs, asks one combined follow-up when facts conflict, and presents a reviewable package. Nothing is written to the catalogue until the package passes validation and you approve the apply step.

If a part number in the package was archived, the agent asks before restoring it; EKX never brings back an archived part on its own.

An import that cannot continue, such as one for an unsupported device or one whose pages carry no product facts, finishes as Failed and shows the reason under Recent imports in the Add a device dialog. An unfinished import there can be continued with its copied request, or stopped with Cancel. Canceling returns the AI credits held for an extraction that has not finished.

Applying a package can create, reuse, restore, or correct catalogue records. It can also save part numbers, compatibility links, field provenance, and reviewed curves. The import does not alter projects or mounted devices.

Inspect the result

Open the returned catalogue links to inspect identity, normalized configuration, part numbers, compatibility, curves, profile readiness, provenance, accessible project usage, and retained limitations.

Organization owners and admins can Archive an organization-private record from the record actions menu, and Restore it from Archived records. An archived part number is listed there too, and its own catalogue page also offers Restore. Existing project references remain visible while a record is archived.
